Here is a painting by Mark Rothko. I saw one of his paintings in the film Following by Christopher Nolan. I didn't understand what was so great about it, but in reality its freaking huge.
He is actually really famous because if you see one of his paintings in person they seem to have a pulsating effect because of how he used color. Not even his assistants were allowed to see him mixing his paints and to this day, apparently, even some chemists haven't been able to figure out how he made his paint.
