New Painting "Brick Walls"

I am no painter, but I like to do it. Its one of the oldest forms of art, and it just feels good. I recently received paints, paint brushes, and a canvas for christmas from Rosie Jager. I was more than delighted to receive them. While painting this picture of the two brick walls, I listened to 3 really good albums. I started out with Buck Owens "Before You Go/No One But You" circa 1965. Then moved onto Diamond Rings new album "Special Affections" and finally concluded the album with Tom Waits's "Bone Machine" 1992. The albums really helped me complete my project. I hope to continue to paint and put my stuff up here on the blog. The music is essential when painting. Check out any of those albums if you haven't already they're each really really good.

Polaroids "Snowy Sunset"

This is after "The Great White Christmas of '10" Here in the Jager's backyard is a beautiful scene of a sunset beaming through the trees and resting its rays on the snow. There is a mysterious glowing box in the center of the frame. Who knows? I now have one polaroid left. I gotta buy some more maybe... Hope you all enjoy!

Polaroids "Chandelier"

I took this polaroid yesterday at Rosie's house. They have this beautiful chandelier, and I thought that the polaroid might come out looking a lot like the first Vampire Weekend Album Cover. Turns out it kinda does. I have another polaroid from this day that looks spectacular of the snow. That will be appearing soon. You must be patient.

Soundtrack Music #2

Here is another song composed by Ben and I. Its a slow moving reflective song. In these recordings we stuck to using one Yamaha keyboard and the MicroKorg synth. These song has a unusual amount of feedback because the keyboard was run through a ibanez delay pedal.

Lot Soundtrack

Here is the first song off the original soundtrack for the film. Its really long and I think only party of the song will actually be used. It has its intense moments and will probably be sliced down to 30 seconds. Enjoy "Tense Moment (Running in slow motion)" let your mind run wild with what is happening during this music.

Short Film Script

Hey everybody! I have been working on a script for my very first official short film entitled "Lot". I've been working with this very minimalist idea. One scene with one setting. Hopefully it will all work together into a cohesive film. I have it on here for download if anyone cares to read it. Also Ben Watson and I have been working on the soundtrack. The film has to be 5 min so we'll see how well our songs fit in there. I will put those up soon...

In Atlanta

I'm in Atlanta today. I made this video from a building. I have no idea what floor I am on. But I haven't posted in a long time, and I thought I would just leave this. The glass bends the frame and ultimately bends the buildings. I can see bloomingdales and the marta from where I am. Enjoy. Its not really anything.

I just received 200 big ones and I want to blow it all at once. I have been scouring the internet for different things I could get. And here is a comprehensive list.
Its tough to make these decisions. I'm only a man.

Newish Type Music

Here is an old demo I had on my computer. I know my blog needed some more music so here you go! Hope you enjoy.
Lyrics:

I was sitting on the bench alone

Checkin my Facebook on my iPhone

Then I heard you walk

I was lookin down my raybans at you

In your blue skirt made from J.Crew

And then hoped that we would talk

Chorus:

We both clapped hands

And we both did dance

And we both sat around

Til the sun went down

and you moved in me

and how could it be

that you’d be the girl

to change my world

we were shopping at the place downtown

for a nice new polo or a white night gown

and then I smelled exhaust

you walked across the room to me

with your black pearls and new sperry’s

in the best izod lacoste

Newest Art "Free Robot..."

Here is the most recent art I have participated in. I tried my hand at sign painting, harnessing the spirit of Royal Robert, the man who inspired all of Sufjan Steven's new album the Age of Adz. Hope everyone enjoys. And seriously if anyone wants one, I will make them a robot nude.

Title Headers...in case you missed them

I thought I'd make a post of all the recent blog title pictures I have used over the past months in case anybody missed any of them.

Spike Jonze Directed Arcade Fire Video

Anyone who really knows me knows that I love Director Spike Jonze. Not the black director guy Spike Lee, but the skinny white jackass producer Spike Jonze. He's directed countless music videos and has moved on to doing major motion pictues. He did the movie Being John Malcovich, Adaptation, and Where The Wild Things Are. His work is beautiful and some of the most creative out there. His music videos have always been original and entertaining. He just recently came out with this video for Arcade Fire's The suburbs. Its an incredible video. Spike Jonze has been one of the only directors that has really pulled me completely into a story. Everything about this video is great. It captivates you and kills you at the same time.

"Clouds" Polaroids!

Newest polaroid taken just outside my dorm in the parking lot. It was a great sunset with all the clouds. I thinks its one of my favorites. Strangely, the polaroid camera is really good at capturing the sky and clouds. It is very good for landscapes. Please enjoy. I will continue to take some as winter creeps in.

Some Great Music I've been listening to

Just recently after searching through pitchfork, I discovered the band Tennis. Seeing how Tennis is an awesome band name I decided to give a listen. They are a lower-fi Beach House with more up tempo and happy tunes! Pitchfork had some videos of them live that were awesome! I highly suggest giving them a watch. They only have an EP out right now which means you can get in on this early. Be that cool guy that knows things! They do a cover of an old song by Jackie Deshannon which I really enjoyed. They just have a fun summery feel.

This is the cover

This next video is the Original "When you Walk in the room" by Jackie DeShannon. I watched it and was mesmerized I had to watch it like 18 times!

Painting "The Great Lamp"

So as I spent my fall break in Auburn, I tried my hand at painting. I have never really been a painter, and the last thing I painted completely sucked. But anyways I decided to upload the most recent art. A painting on my favorite lamp. I featured a polaroid of this lamp earlier in this semester. So here it is "The Great Lamp" it took a really long time to do.

Hilarious Internet Article from CRACKED

For all those of you who visit to cracked.com you may have already read this article. I just recently have been visiting the site. Its hilarity has no limit. Whenever I read it, without fail, my stomach will hurt from all the laughter spilling out of me. It is a website that has ridiculous lists and countdowns of things that you want to read about. Even if the title is uninteresting, the article will make lose control. Just recently I read this article on "The 7 Most Useless Skymall Products" I couldn't stop the laughing. I suggest it to all. And be sure to read the reviews of each product, thats what gets me everytime. HIGHLY RECOMMEND it. It will brighten your day.

"Floor 1" Polaroid

This polaroid marks one of the strangest things I've ever seen. As I go up the steps from the basement I see the sign on the door that says floor 1. HA! As if it were the first floor! With 2 levels below this floor i just don't understand. This picture marks the last of polaroids till I receive more inspiration. Either from the weather or somehow else externally. This picture gives off a Halloween-Michael-Myers-Hospital vibe. He's gonna push through this door, stalk some naughty young couple, and brutally knife or strangle them. I would definitely suggest those movies. Never lets down if your trying to appreciate Horror figures of the 80s. This Polaroid is also dedicated to Halloween that is coming up. I've always loved halloween, and I hope parents out there continue to let there kids get sick with candy and make memories that they can randomly flash back to when fall weather blows in.

"Shelves" Polaroid

This polaroid was taken in the basement of Gorgas Library. Probably one of the most SKETCHIEST places on campus, if not the entire world. It is 2 floors below the computer lab which is at street level. No one is ever down there, and if they are then they have a murderer who is hiding out for a few days just till the heat blows over. It is complete with low ceilings bared doors and old STANK! There are no bathrooms or elevators. Not even all the lights are turned on. I filmed a little down there once. I hope to use it at a set one day for future filming. But in conclusion, my advice to the ladies, head down here if you want your chances of rape to increase. Advice to men, take a trip down there if you want your chances with the ladies to decrease.

"Fallen Robot" Polaroid

This is a polaroid of the fallen robot outside of Woods Hall. It looks so natural. It just looks like that robot keeled over right there. I don't know it got there or who did it, but if I find out I'll post it. It is an incredible piece of art! It is a beautiful mixture of the natural and the unnatural. It is the opposite of when you find beer cans in a river or trash on the side of a road. It's a robot thats dead now. It's freakin awesome.

"The Barracks" Polaroids

This is the corner of Woods Hall. Woods Hall houses studio art classrooms and graduate studios in the Department of Art and Art History at my school. Prior to 1884 it was just called the “barracks”. I was walking back from class when I realized how beautiful this was. It gives the school some serious civil war flare. The picture turned out great and the sun light did some excellent work. Enjoy! Polaroid number 3.

"Lakeside Diner" Polaroids

This is a picture of right outside the side door of my dorm. That's lakeside diner. I eat there a heck of a lot. Also that pond there has ducks in it all the time. I think their legs are chained to the bottom of the lake to make them stay.

New Polaroid Series! "Melting"

Thats right people! I'm back at. In honor of Tuscaloosa'a strange weather habits, I took to the campus to capture some great polaroids. There is a lot of people out there so many a side glance was given to me as I embarked on my new task of documenting college. Coming up I have 6 polaroids to be displayed. Here's how the first one turned out. It got mixed up with the package cover and came out pretty sweet. I was originally just taking a picture of my lab top and this is what came out.

New art.

New Nerf Gun Bloody Thumb

Here is a picture of my brand new N-Strike Maverick Nerf Gun. Yeah, I know its a revolver. And yes I do play nerf roulette, which is when I load one dart, spin the barrel, and take my chances by placing the gun against my head. So far i've died like 14 NERF deaths.
You may be wondering why I purchased such an awesome weapon. Besides the fact that it looks cool and holding a gun makes me feel more like a man, I got it for UA Humans Vs. Zombies. My roomate, Bryan Herren, has brought an incredible game to t-town.
This game is played over the course of a week and could last forever. Essentially the game stars with one zombie and everyone else playing is a human. The zombie is trying to turn all the humans into zombies. In order to do that the zombie just has to tag a human. The way a human protects himself is by stunning a zombie. This stunning lasts for 15 minutes and can be achieved by throwing a sock on a zombie or by, YES YOU GUESSED IT, shooting them with a nerf gun. The game lasts until all the humans are turned into zombies. But Zombies can die if they don't tag a human every 48 hours. The game is run out of this website.
All buildings are safe zones and there are missions for the humans to complete so that the humans don't hide out in there rooms for weeks on end.
Here is some video footage of the Original Humans vs. Zombies at Groucher College

My new $3 Pool Shirt

Purchased at a country gas station somewhere between Auburn, AL and Tuscaloosa, this prime shirt was a little more than 3 smackers. Its a steal, right??? AMBROSIA!!! Appearing with a margarita glass and beautiful flower how could anyone resist this delightful shirt? I thought everyone would like to see it to know what to buy, but the sad thing is ....its getting FREAKIN cold out there! So I'll just have to stick to wearing these in the gym!!! If ya see me, holla at ya boy, because I'm probably getting jacked OUT OF MY MIND!!! Lots of punctuation in this post I know but just don't let get to ya.

Celeb Pool Shirt

Above is Ernest Weatherly Greene also known as musical mastermind behind chill wave bedroom pop outfit Washed Out. All who haven't heard need to take a visit to his myspace. And then once his musical melodies of summer and vacation blow you back to memory land, check out his totally sweet picture and video blog. This man has been blowing my mind recently with digitally tinged lo-fi pop music. You basically float when listening. I had the privilege of watching him perform a while back with Beach House and he literally blew the audience away, LITERALLY! Everyone died, except me. As you can see he reps the "pool shirt" and once you listen to his music you can totally tell why.

Gearing up for "POOL SHIRT"

People get ready for the grand re-opening of my blog! I've found new purpose. And it is in Pool shirts, a.k.a. wife beaters, a.k.a. man tank tops. Thats right! Hipster city! The shirt that screams summer time and breathes comfortability. No sleeves and no collar! How grand a shirt that could be worn by mortal man. My friend's dad G.A. Adam's is my inspiration! That man waists no time with shirts that restrain your arm movement. His clothing is a choice of style and efficiency! Over the rest of this month we will be honoring the pool shirt as fall and winter wave it away. We will be paying homage to the hipsters and old folk that rock them. And also taking a look at the 3 I own!!! So get ready for some Pool Shirt madness!

Local Observations

  • As black dudes short's get longer and lower, white dude's shorts get shorter and shorter.
  • The more Birkenstocks go out of style, the more happy it makes me when I see people wearing them.
  • The more people that get mad about other people thinking that they are indie, the more I want to blow up my face.
  • The fact that your movie is 3-D and costs more is double the incentive to not go.
  • You're a douche because you have a bike.
  • T. Bass brought up an excellent point about detachment. His goal is to be so detached from his own experiences and opinions that one day he will be able to judge a situation completely unbiasedly.

New hit single "Love Like a Dragon"

Recently recorded underneath my new bed comes a new track to add to the DJ LaZaR collection. The last hit single "The Coolest Dad" was credited to Charles Martel but was in fact recorded by DJ LaZaR. Hope yall enjoy the futuristic take on love and its poppy technoness.

Lyrics:
Theres blood like a fight wound
Pouring Down my knuckles clinch
And me like a tight end
Running towards the evil ditch

Hounds like a lion
Clawing up on my front door
And kids like the pylons
Falling over more and more

Love like a dragon
Breathing fire as it moves
With one like a llion
Beasting all that it behooves

Mirror "Polaroids" Last

This is the final picture I took with my 2nd roll of polaroid film. This was also the last night I got to spend time with Rosie before she moved away and began her college career. Also more fun facts, right around this time I was turning 19. My birthday had some sadness, but I knew as things always do it would turn around. I used my final picture to "indie" you guys right on off! Total art shot reflection in the mirror. This picture marks the end of my old life. No more living at home. No more driving the same roads. This is the end of the polaroid memorium. I'm getting more film, but now its a rebirth. A new start. NEW DAY RISING by Hüsker Dü

Mad Men

I've recently become a huge fan of Mad Men the AMC series of the 1950s Madison Avenue Ad agency Sterling Cooper. It pays amazing homage to the time period. It has one of the best actors I think out there right now. John Ham! Money in the bank. The show takes you back to a time when everyone smoked and drank during work. All the men had secretaries that acted more like waitresses. Its a wonderful show. I suggest all see it.

Important Blogger Buzz! Pirate House Inc. Multimedia Blog Fantastical!

Is anyone out there tired, tired of stupid stuff? Stuff that in your opinion is not worth your time?Stuff thats written way past not only your attention span but also your interested-in span? Yeah, well me to! Sometimes there are just too many hours in the day and I need there to be more internet for me to look at! Not only more, but also interesting! I think I've found the cure.
This pretentious blog has more musical superficiality then you can say you're better than. Visit it for mp3s by bands you've never heard of. In fact the bands on this blog have all the same people in them. HOW INDIE! I know right. Don't even think about bringing this up in conversation cause you'll get more than a few side glances from unbelievers and non hipsters. Enjoy hours of skinny jean branding, and faux rayban rockin on this smaller than life MUSICAL BLOG!

Haikus Best of

Here are some Haikus I've been working on. Its very important to me that Haikus come in threes.

Haikus

Summer as sexy is

Warmth around the edges of youth

Laying here all day

People fade their ways

Running with no end in sight.

Looking back kills me.

Under my bedroom

On these old piano keys

There is blood here now

"Shep the Wonderdog!" Polaroids

This is a picture of the afternoon before my birthday bash! That is my aunt's dog, a German shepherd mixed with a basset hound. Yeah, I know right, such a normal and mundane breed. From this shot you can't see its abnormally huge head attached to its short saggy body. He was resting on a rock, and I thought it was a grand opportunity to take a polaroid. My grandmother lives in the house behind him amongst the woods. I've always liked going to her house. The directions do not take you over the river, but they do lead you right through the woods. I'm sure everyone who came to my party could attest to that. I wish that I had gotten a picture of the huge dance we got goin. It was absolutely mind blowing. Glow sticks, tikki torches, and loud music. I hope thats one memory people take with them for rest of their life. That last party before college.

Lake Martin "Polaroids"

Here is a picture of the lake, some distant trees, and the sun. During this lake trip I got to try out my girlfriend's little sister's really nice Canon t1i. It was really really pretty to say the least. We took some HD video footage, and it blew my freakin mind. But even with all the new fangled inventions that the world puts out, I feel like there will always be a place for the faded photography. It takes you back like a time machine. I sorta fake the oldness of my pictures by using old equipment.

Polaroids "Hoover Piles"

This picture was taken at the Hoover Country Club driving range. The whole course is under construction and I really liked these piles of sand. In the picture though the piles are not the focal point but rather the surroundings. The contrast was great in this photo so I was ultimately pleased. I wanted to capture a different mood but ended up with a beautiful landscape instead. Thats just how some great things turn out.

The Beautiful Fight

Something enchanted happened this week at Camp Briarwood Day camp. Something wonderful that sets in your heart a warm flame. Although in the beginning all the ingredients didn't add up to the spectacular outcome.
The scene was hot! The sun bore down on all of us, and it was time to head to the pool. The pool is the only refuge at camp. It's the only place you can hide from the sun, but only for an instant. We were kept out though. We waited at the pool gates and no one came. A cry rang up from the children. All were fuming with anger! Many pounded their fists against the iron clad window of the pool house. After a while it was no use. No one appeared. I and others lost hope. We fell to the ground from complete exhaust. How could we have been abandoned a such an hour of need? We all were down now, wasting away. Some wept while others sighed. "It is the end", we all said together. One was silent though. His mind was racing. He was conceptualizing! An idea! It rang out across the multitude. All was not lost, he said, all was not lost. "We shall have a contest!" At this moment we were all bewildered. "Two men will fight in classic Greco Roman style while each of us chant for our champion!" Aye! What a grand idea! Everyone was well pleased. Sam Gilmore was chosen as the leader of the Redland. His oppent was the almost evenly matched Rob Palmer of Whitecity. They both weighed in at no more than 125 lbs. The crowd surrounded them and the fighters made way to their positions in the grass. As i recall Sam was in the floor position with Rob's arms locked over Sam's chest.
The whistle was blown and the fight began. Sam with the intensity of a lion and Rob the fierceness of bear. They rolled over and over each other. Sam had many opportunities for a good pin, but Rob fought out. At one point Rob dropped Sam right onto his back, but with the testosterone flowing no man proved to be any more victorious than the other.
They went into three rounds, and by the third they each possessed the perseverance and strength of a baby Koala. Sam seemed surprised at Rob's skill. Apparently in previous fights Rob had had the toughness of a scaredy-cat. The men of the audience screamed and hollered! The chant "Sam!" came at first, but slowly Rob began to be the favorite.
Finally the match was called. The judges and I came to the center for a decision. We each were very impressed by the fightsmanship. We all gave our opinions and chose. Both men stood in the center. The referee's hand clutching each fighters arm. The epic conclusion. "After much delineation the judges have come to a conclusion. The winner of today's fortuitous battle is..." All was silent. The crowd stood perfectly still and at the moment the chains holding the gate closed on the pool clanked together as they fell. Breath was held, fingers were crossed, eyes were clenched shut. "No contest!" The chains hit the ground and everyone turned to see the pool had been opened. They all ran forgetting what they had seen. They all drove towards their original desire, to just find refuge from the heat.

New Look New idea.

So I changed what my blog looked like. Now it looks less lame I think. Anyway I was talking with Ben the other day about an idea that I think will catch on pretty soon. Fads come and go. Some fads deal with clothing or appearance others with attitudes or furniture. A fad that I have seen growing in my time has been the sub-fad. Not the fads below, but this whole deep bass subwoofer fad. And, hey, I love it. I love having my pants shake right off my body because you installed four 28 inch subwoofers in the tiny cab of your truck. I love not being able to hear the actual music over the thud and heart punching bass.
But i know its just a fad and I had a new fad that will soon take the teens by storm. The HIGH end! Tweeters! Thats right the part of the speaker that produces the higher frequencies! Yay! now our ear drums can bleed with fire engine siren clarity! Who cares about bass any way. Its easy to play and normally the bass player in the band is the least important. Everybody just watch you'll see hip youngsters askin their parents for money to install the top of the line tweeters in their car. So now when you're waiting at a stop light your vehicle won't shake because the gotee'd 19 yr old next to you is "bumpin" but rather you'll feel your brain being squeezed into a tiny box from the high pitched tweeters of the new kid on the block. LOOK OUT HERE COMES SQUEAKY!

Polaroids "The Great Cahaba" pt 2

This is another from the River. The picture turned out really clear so I was very proud.

Polaroids "The Great Cahaba"

This is a picture of Ben Watson at the Cahaba RIver. Growing up we've always played there, swinging from homemade rope swings and floating down its murky waters. The Cahaba is surely not the cleanest river in Alabama. The river has alway given off a Huckleberry Finn vibe. It just calls you to freedom and carelessness. I really want to run away, build a raft, and just go down it one day. The river sparks adventure and leisure, in my opinion the best of both worlds. This particular part of the river was new to me. I decided that I wanted a picture of ben on shore while I was in the water. Yeah thats right, in this shot I was up to my waist in the river. We had to cross the river a couple of times that day with my camera. It was really scary considering the price of camera and rarity of film. Any way I ultimately got what I wanted out of the picture. I won't be seeing a lot of this guy next year, so this is just a held memory of good times at the river.

Polaroid Series

This is a picture of the back of my house around 1 o'clock in the morning. I was trying to get a night time shot like someone was creepin in our back yard to steal our stuff or just look at our house. In the shot is my back porch with the light on. Above that is our chimney and just to the left of that is my parents bedroom window.

Polaroid Series

This is a picture of my garage. This is where the music fusion happens. In the shot you can see some guitars, a bass drum with a blanket over it, a rocking chair, a computer, and my piano.
That piano used to belong in the basement under the steps of my high school. One day when me and my fellow band mate Benjamin were playing on it, the school's janitor called down the steps, "Hey what you doing down there?!" We were terrified and almost ran away. But we replied honestly that we were just playing the piano. He then asked, "You want it?!" I could hardly believe this. The school janitor was gonna give me a piano? How would I even get it out of the school? But no worries he said they would deliever it. Can you freakin believe that? Free Piano. And delievery. It was a wonderful day and that sparked my interest for the piano. I have been playin it ever since.

Polaroids the "why"

I recently bought a polaroid camera . It was $20.50 on ebay. I was really excited because it was so cheap, but then I discovered...they don't make the film any more. But that doesn't mean you can't find it any where, it just means that any film you buy will be expired and expensive.
So any way I decided it was worth it and invested into some film. I've now turned this into an art project, and I hope everyone enjoys it. The pictures I take are more a reminder to me of life right before college. I am trying to capture places and people who I might not see for a very long time.

Polaroid Series

This has been my favorite one by far. It looks like it was taken in the 80's and has this feel like you might see some teens from the cosby show walkin by. I used to want to shoot a seen here for a film I wrote called The Bike Rider. I still have that script somewhere. Never got around to actually doin it though. It was a pretty good story I thought. It centered around this one kid who for his 16th birthday receives a bike instead of a car. Maybe I'll post the script up one day. Oh but anyway it was taken right next to the entrance to the Hoover Public Library.

Polaroid Series

This is a picture of my oldest brother. Probably taken around midnight. He's been living at home for a while trying to get into law school. He's now enrolled in Denver Law and is gonna be headin there in August. This is Alex's spot. I think Ill always have this memory in my head. Right outside the garage door next to the retaining wall. He looks pretty cool. And thats my shirt he's wearing. We were both happy about how the picture turned out.

Polaroid Series

This is a picture of a secret stairwell i found near the hoover public library. It leads to the lower offices of the Hoover Municipal Center. The stairwell led down down and down to its ominous bottom floor where lonely roller chairs and obsolete computers sat to collect dust and roaches.

and THEN I won 50 bucks!!!

Hey guess what everybody! I received a check in the mail yesterday! For the previously stated amount. It turns out that I won 2nd plce in a poetry contest. Now I know what you are thinking. "Did you copy it off the internet?" and the answer is...not exactly. We had a project in Mr. Carter's creative writing class to write a response poem. I chose a poem by Wendell Berry and we were instructed to use the form to write a new poem in response. I guess the judges liked it because they said, "Blah blah blah something tangible...keep writing blah blah." I don't know if this is good thing. I mean money is always a good thing, but contests. I feel as though when judges judge teenage poetry they just look for something that doesn't suck and that day i sucked the least. So "great job, son. thanks for not talking about love or having your last named changed or death." I'm thinkin about blowin all the money on something big.
